Key Pieces of Upholstery from GDC Home

Stop by GDC Home in March for the Upholstery Sale featuring 20% off all in stock, special order and clearance upholstery. The designers at GDC Home have pulled together key pieces of upholstery for your home along with a few game changing tips just in time for the special sale.

To Live In

Everyone has that one go to piece of furniture that gets used the most. At the beach that’s likely to be the soft and cozy, filled with pillows, slipcovered and yes white sofa. The slipcovers are a key component for this piece because they can be washed over and over and don’t be scared of white because it bleaches out like new. Add a few decorative pillows and a throw blanket and it’s a done deal that’s sure to encourage relaxation.

For Everyone

Are you tired of fighting for prime movie positioning? Try a sectional with more seating options then you have people. Back lay, side lay, cross legged, head stand or traverse the entire top outer edge of the sofa  (if your my son). No matter what you find comfortable there’s room for you here. It’s great in the case of this functioning sectional to have a deep seat as you’re more likely to lounge then perch.

To Entertain With

Try two of these sofas facing each other. Such a handsome frame with the tight tufted back, but covered in casual, sturdy, washed linen. This frame keeps people seated in a comfortable position facing each other. It’s perfect for conversation and the high arms help create and intimate sense of space. Add an antique, one of a kind rug ottoman to get the conversation started, top it with a tray a small vase of flowers and your beverage of choice.

To Have Fun With

Add some popping, patterned fabric to your life, throw it on an upholstered swivel chair or two, paired with that white, slipcovered sofa everyone loves and you’ve got a living space dreams are made of. Do you have swivel chairs in your life? They are so functional and conducive to everyday life I highly recommend them. Whether you’re watching the sunset through the window or the TV over the fire place, turning your back on your younger sibling or talking politics with your neighbor you can face any direction your heart desires.

To Talk Business In

Put these in your office on the other side of your desk and change the world. Seriously this no nonsense metal frame keeps things straight with great lines. Try leather for a formal feel or velvet for the library; change the finish on the frame depending on your style, antique brass or polished stainless steel.

To Sit Pretty In

Put these chairs in your dressing room and let them do their job, sit there and compliment your outfits, give you a place to slip your shoes on or powder your nose. The frame is petite to fit into tighter places, keep the fabric neutral to compliment the decorative legs and not compete with all the colors of your wardrobe, add a fun little pillow and your kids will sit and chat with you while you get ready, fun!

To Dine In

It’s rare these days that we all get to sit down and eat together. Try an upholstered dining chair to make things last. If your chairs are uncomfortable who wants to sit after dining and go through the highs and lows of your week? Give them a comfortable chair and you can talk and play games into the wee hours. These chairs have slipcovers for easy cleaning but you could also upholster them in outdoor fabrics that wipes clean. With your options in fabrics these days you can find anything to match your décor. A fun little touch is adding some casters to the chairs (these chairs come with them) for easy moving on area rugs.

The Resort Shop's Top Trends

Straight from New York Fashion Week, here are a few Spring trends from The Resort Shop.

1. Summer Knits We are totally in love with this trend as it is the perfect complement to our beautiful beach-y weather. A summer knit is a transitional piece that can go from day-to-night and even layer over a maxi dress to keep your shoulders warm after sunset. We love these fun White + Warren knits, paired with our favorite AG Denim and a fun sandal. In Charleston, you can truly live the Beach Life all year long and The Resort Shop has all the effortless pieces to take you there.

 2. In Bloom Now, we know ‘florals for Spring’ is no huge surprise- we all remember the line from Devil Wears Prada- but in bright bold tones like this Trina Turk piece, there is new life in this Spring trend. Instead of opting for pastels try a bold print with fuchsias, lime greens, and tangerines. You are sure to stand out in the garden-party crowd.  Shop all of Trina Turk’s bold Spring & Summer collections at both of our locations all year long!

 3. Denim on Denim Head to toe denim pieces were all over the NYFW runways. While some may be a bit much, we suggest mixing different washes of denim to coordinate the perfect look. Think white denim or a light wash with a dark chambray button-up. At The Resort Shop we have the perfect blend of denim favorites from designers like AG Jeans, Splendid, Velvet Heart, VINCE, and Eileen Fisher. You are sure to find the ideal combination to express your style!

 4. Fringe Benefits Fringe accessories are the perfect way to incorporate NYFW 1970’s trend into your everyday wardrobe. Opt for buttery tans, suede, black, or grays. Try fringe booties, totes, cross-bodies, vests and even a lavaliere as the perfect accent. Chan Luu’s textured suede necklaces add the perfect bohemian vibe to any look.

Peyton William Believes the Best Accessory This Spring is COLOR

Warmer weather, constant sunshine and gentle sea breezes are right around the corner, and this spring, Peyton William is all about color. Exciting color variations –whether pastels, brights or muted– offer a fun, expressive way to play up classic spring ensembles.

Peyton William Jewelry is known for combining many tones and textures, creating unique pieces that can easily be mixed and matched. Fan favorites, from bright turquoise to deep blue lapis to aqua chrysoprase to lovely lavender chalcedony, were used to create a stunning spring collection.

One of the greatest perks of using lux, handmade jewelry to complete an outfit is the ability to have fun and pair different stones, colors and styles. Peyton William encourages pairing a brilliant blue lapis with subtle lavender, or accenting an aqua green with a bright turquoise.

Add a little extra oomph to floral prints or just a touch of glamour to neutral white and beige looks with some fresh, new colors this spring. There is no better way to take your spring wardrobe from drab to fab than with a perfectly placed pop of color!

Peyton William Jewelry was founded in 2003 by Gabrielle Egan, and each piece is handmade in her historic downtown Charleston studio. Inspired by the arts, drawing from the surreal & the abstract, each piece portrays a look that is timeless, classic and suitable for women of all ages.   Peyton William pieces are designed to be worn individually or layered. Each piece is a unique creation with its own unique aesthetic, made using all natural gemstones found around the world. Custom designs can be created and existing pieces can be customized and/or altered to a client’s specifications.   Locations include Freshfields Village at 149 Village Green Lane and Charleston at 241 King Street.

Spring Break Beach Reads

Beach chair…check.  Sunscreen…check.  Cooler…check.  Now, how about a book!  Here are a few suggestions compliments of Indigo Books for your Spring Break enjoyment.

  • Find Her, Lisa Gardner’s newest thriller is exactly that.  A young woman survives 472 days in captivity after being kidnapped while on Spring Break.  Years later, as other young women go missing, Flora Dare has to come to terms with her past.  Is she a victim or a vigilante?  This book will keep you from falling asleep in the sun!
  • The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray.  In this hard to define book, Robert Schnakenberg catalogs all things Bill Murray:  the movie roles he is known for and those he didn’t take; friends and acquaintances; likes and dislikes; and Tales from Murrayland.  This encyclopedic reference is filled with color photos and is just right for picking up and reading a little or a lot according to the time you have.  Like Murray himself, the book is quirky and good for more than a few laughs.
  • It Ended Badly by Jennifer Wright chronicles thirteen of the world’s worst breakups, including those of Nero and Henry VIII.  It is historical nonfiction, but don’t let that deter you from reading it while on your break.  The author’s research has yielded many interesting facts and anecdotes and she relays them in an easy-to-read, entertaining manner.  Who knew this could be a laughing matter?
  • 6:41 to Paris by Jean-Phillipe Blondel.  The past resurfaces for two middle-aged passengers on an early morning train to Paris.  With no place to hide, they both must confront the dormant emotions of former and current relationships.  At 146 pages, this is a perfect read for a short break.  And while you are in the Parisian mood, you might want to check out The Sweet Life in Paris and The Most Beautiful Walk in the World and any of Cara Black’s Aimee Leduc mysteries.
  • Twenty years ago Bill Bryson traveled around Great Britain and wrote of his experiences in Notes from a Small Island.  He retraced that journey, in a meandering sort of way, and relates his observations on what has changed and what hasn’t—and a few things unobserved previously—in The Road to Little Dribbling: adventures of an American in Britain.  Bryson is a great travel raconteur, wryly relating stories and observations as he walks, bikes, and rides the bus across Britain.  Great fun!
Need other suggestions?  Come see us at Indigo Books and we will match you with a great read.
